A bachelor degree in art design will give you the opportunity to join some of the top professionals in the industry.  Of course, you can always choose to start your own design business, focusing on any number of mediums.  However, you will also have the option of being considered for employment with the highest tiers of design firms or other professional corporations out there today.  You can choose to work as a designer, realizing concepts developed by others.  Or else, you can be more involved in the production process and work towards being an art or creative director in any number of businesses.  Some of these include television and movie media, advertising, publishing, or web design.

Of course, in order to land your dream job, a certain amount of practical work experience will be required of you.  However, in order to gain that initial experience, your art design program will need to include a number of subjects, such as:

-Visual communication and design theory

-Advertising concepts and practical application

-Prepress production methods and printing techniques

-Layout and typesetting

-Illustrating and designing by hand as well as by computer

-Management of design staff

-Developing a portfolio

-How to present and pitch and idea to a client

What Kind of Career Can I Find?

Depending on your focus during your bachelor degree program, your career options will be slightly different.  However, many of the skills and techniques you have learned can easily be applied to art design jobs in a variety of industries.  Some of these include animation, book and magazine publishing, and various video media, such as television, movies, or web production.  Also, there are a variety of opportunities for jobs in advertising and marketing.

What really sets a bachelor degree apart from any other sort of art design credential is that it will allow you to more easily obtain higher level positions.  Whereas someone else might only have the option of being a designer, you will have the chance to become the head of the design and production team.  Without this type of degree, it would take many years and a lot of luck in order to be considered for such positions and, therefore, is an important step in building your career.
